Scholarships: Have you applied yet?
Since its inception over sixty years ago, IIGS has had one primary mission: to ensure the continuation of Sikhi through reaching out to Sikh youth around the world.
The founder of IIGS, Captain Kanwar Harbhajan Singh ji, known to all as Papa, had the foresight to start such an organization as he knew that Sikhs would face the challenge of keeping up their Sikh form and heritage within and outside of India. Thus, Papa ji began a revolutionary camping movement, which brought together Sikh children from near and far, to create a Guru loving sangat that would promote their faith and continue Sikhi no matter where they lived, no matter what the challenge.
In keeping with Papa ji's love for the Guru and His children, IIGS is humbled to announce a Sikh Scholarship for high school seniors and young college going students up to the age of 22. This is the seventh year that IIGS is giving the scholarship; its purpose is to promote a college education and to help Sikh youngsters offset some of the expenses that come with a college education. Last year, three $1000 scholarships were awarded to deserving Sikh students; additionally, however, three special monetary prizes were also given out to equally deserving Sikh students who excelled in various ways during their high school years.
This year the organization is proud to announce five $1000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors and college students up to the age of 22. The application will be evaluated based on academic merit, teacher/mentor recommendations and any and all extra-curricular activities that our young Khalsas have taken part in while pursuing their educational goals. Furthermore, one of the scholarships will also take sports achievements into consideration so as to promote Sikh athletes as well.
Please spread the word so that all Sikh students hear about this wonderful opportunity.
